The Great American Trucking Show

Truck Driver Chanita Ward’s Journey to Success Featured at Upcoming Great American Trucking Show

Malone employee, Chanita Ward, will be part of a featured story on her success as a Lease Purchase driver during the upcoming Great American Trucking Show (GATS)

Ward, a 12-year veteran of the highways and byways, is a flatbed driver for Malone and shows no signs of slowing down any time soon. Chanita is often asked, “Isn’t this job too hard for a woman?” But she contends, “If you’re willing to put in the work, it’s not as hard as it looks.”

According to a recent American Trucking Association report, while 185,000 trucking jobs were added in 2017, just 7% of those drivers are women. Malone hires hard-working, driven individuals looking to make driving their livelihood, and women are a big part of that.

As a longtime truck driver, Chanita has worked for several trucking companies, but she’s found Malone to be a wonderful fit. Her initial reason for choosing Malone had a lot to do with their above-and-beyond treatment of employees, “The team at Malone treats you like family – that was my first reason for choosing to work for them. I’m not just a truck number to them. They know who I am and they want to help me make good money. I’ve been given all the tools I need to succeed.”

While women may not make up a huge segment of the truck driving industry, Chanita believes it’s a career that allows you to thrive while seeing and experiencing many parts of the nation you might not otherwise have the opportunity to see. “I highly recommend working at Malone—especially if you have an adventurous spirit and plenty of initiative. Let’s just say I’m not going anywhere,” she says.

CRST Malone president, Chris Deschaine, along with Recruiting director, Chris Gonzalez, and COO of CRST International, Hugh Ekberg, will present Chanita’s story on the Main Stage of GATS on August 23 at 2:30 pm.
